What you need to know to vote in Kansas

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Voting for the 2025 General Election is underway in Kansas. Voters will decide on several local races. Most positions are for school board members, mayor, city council or commission members. Some towns will have special tax questions or school bond issues.

You can vote by mail. To get an advance ballot, you must fill out an application.

Applying for an advance ballot

1. Download the Application by clicking this link.2. Fill out the application with the following information:

  • Date the election will be held
  • Your name
  • Address where you are registered
  • Date of birth
  • Your Kansas Driver’s License or Kansas non-driver’s ID Number (or submit copy of other ID specified on the form)
  • Your signature

Advance voting in Sedgwick County

In Wichita and Sedgwick County, voters can cast their vote at the Sedgwick County Election Office at 510 N. Main, Suite 101, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Oct. 31. The Election Office will also be open for early in-person voting on Monday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Satellite in-person voting will be held at 19 locations across Sedgwick County starting on Thursday, Oct 30, and Friday, Oct. 31, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Locations will be open Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Eligible voters may vote at the locations below during the listed dates and times.

Advance by mail ballots can be returned in multiple ways:

  • By mail to the Sedgwick County Election Office, 510 N. Main, Suite 101, Wichita, Kansas, 67203
  • In person at the Sedgwick County Election Office
  • At one of the 14 community-located drop boxes (listed below)
  • In person, in the completed envelope, to any Election Day polling place

Ballots must be returned to the Election office, a community drop box or at a polling place by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4, or postmarked by Election Day and received no later than three days following the election to be counted.

Kansas laws on voting

State law requires polling places to open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you will be allowed to vote. State law allows counties to open polling locations as early as 6 a.m. and close as late as 8 p.m. Pursuant to K.S.A. 25-106, polling locations must be open for at least 12 consecutive hours. Please verify the operating hours in your county with your local election office.
