GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Meals on Wheels of Greenville is expanding its mission beyond feeding the homebound — preparing to deliver medically tailored meals designed to improve health outcomes for people living with chronic illnesses.
The nonprofit recently graduated from the Food is Medicine Coalition’s (FIMC) national accelerator program, becoming the first organization in South Carolina to move toward offering meals that could soon be prescribed like medication.
Throughout the week, volunteers pack their cars outside the Oregon Street kitchen and deliver more than 1,500 meals across Greenville County. For many clients, that knock on the door means more than food — it’s the only conversation they’ll have all day…
