F&F Pizzeria brings New York flavor to Pittsburgh

Critically acclaimed Brooklyn eatery F&F Pizzeria is expanding beyond New York for the first time — bringing its signature pies to Mt. Lebanon.

The big picture: The Brooklyn hot spot is gearing up to open its new location in the former Bado’s Pizza Grill and Ale House, which closed two years ago.

The intrigue: F&F’s pizza uses naturally leavened dough that yields charred edges and a crisp but chewy bite — a blend of Neapolitan and New York styles.

  • Chefs Frank Falcinelli and Frank Castronovo, known collectively as “The Franks,” have earned a devoted following for their New York Italian restaurant Frankies 457 Spuntino.
  • Their companion pizzeria, F&F, is celebrated for its slow-fermented dough and pizzas made with premium ingredients, including their namesake Sicilian olive oil and organic tomatoes.

The vibe: The restaurant’s first floor houses a bar, dining area, slice counter and pizza kitchen. The upper level has additional seating and a private event space, complemented by a large outdoor patio available during warmer months.

  • F&F Pizzeria’s new Mt. Lebo outpost seats about 130 people and offers the polish of a full-service restaurant in a laid-back atmosphere. Guests can grab a slice or settle in for a meal with wine, beer or cocktails.

Dig in: The menu runs the gamut from classic to adventurous, starting with small plates like arancini ($6), Castelvetrano Nocellara olives ($5) and focaccia ($9) followed by a lineup of pasta and rotating seasonal favorites.

  • Try the clam pizza topped with fresh clams, mozzarella, Parmesan, breadcrumbs, lemon, red chile flakes and parsley ($23-$44) or the wild mushroom pie with maitake, fresh mozzarella and Gruyère ($20-$29).
  • Sip standout cocktails like the Rust Belt Revival, a moody mix of bourbon, maple, egg white and red wine ($15).

Fun fact: The Franks’ classic cookbook helped actor and Brooklyn native Jeremy Allen White get in character for “The Bear.”…
