ORLANDO, Fla. – Melissa is officially a hurricane, as of the 2 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center.
Sporting 75-mph winds, its center was 145 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, and moving west-northwest at just 1 mph, creating a dangerous situation for residents in Jamaica, Haiti, and parts of Cuba.
