A new Riverside candy store is thanking a father and his young son after their kind actions may have saved the business from a costly mistake.Surveillance video captured Conner Smith and his 4-year-old son, Charlie, discovering that the recently opened Uptown Candy Shop had been left unlocked overnight. Instead of ignoring it, Smith decided to find a security guard to help secure the store. The pair left briefly to get a phone number, then returned to wait for assistance.While they waited, Smith turned the moment into a life lesson for his son, reading aloud the store’s candy rules and explaining the importance of helping others. “My first thought was that somebody is gonna take advantage of the situation,” Smith said. “What if they want to close because they lose too much inventory?
