The man suspected of opening fire at a bonfire party in Jefferson County, killing a high school cheerleader, was granted bond during a court appearance Friday. Steven Whitehead, 27, is charged with shooting and killing 18-year old Kimber Mills and injuring three others near Pinson last weekend. During an Aniah’s Law hearing, prosecutors presented videos of the shooting. Investigators testified that a female claimed she was touched by Whitehead. A group then confronted the man, which authorities say led to the fight and gunfire. Prosecutors asked that Whitehead be held on no bond, but Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Kandice Pickett denied the motion, claiming there’s no evidence Whitehead is a danger to the community.
