Smoking device and meth fall out of driver’s boot during traffic stop

A Leesburg man was arrested on drug charges after a smoking device and meth fell out of his shoe during a search.

A deputy observed 31-year-old Melvin Daniel Angle driving a white Ford truck without its headlights on in inclement weather in Leesburg at 5:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle failed to make a complete stop behind the stop bar turning onto County Road 44, leading to a traffic stop near the cross of Emeralda Island Road. The deputy asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, and Angle said no. He also gave his consent for his vehicle and his person to be searched, the report said.

Angle was then asked to take off his boots. He took his right foot out of his shoe, causing a glass smoking device with burnt residue to fall out and crack on the concrete. A piece of plastic wrapped around 1 gram of methamphetamine fell out, as well. A small clear plastic baggie with 2 grams of methamphetamine remained inside the shoe, the report said…
