Sixteen students from West Texas A&M University (WT), along with professors Dr. Enyonam Osei-Hwere and Dr. Brock Blaser, traveled from Canyon, Texas, to Cape Town, South Africa. The study abroad trip took place from September 21 to October 5, 2025. The program included service projects and cultural activities.
The group helped establish a community garden in Simondium. They planted fruits and vegetables to support local food needs. Dr. Blaser, who specializes in dryland farming, led the agricultural project. Students gained experience in sustainable agriculture.
The group also joined more than 15 cultural tours, many organized with Stellenbosch University. These included visits to Welgevallen Citrus Orchards and the HortiDemoCentre. Students learned about citrus farming and South Africa’s role in the global citrus market…
