A Newton woman’s son has been sentenced for stealing over $10,000 from her bank account between July 2024 and May of this year. Court documents say 62-year-old Nathan Mallory of West Des Moines was in charge of his mother’s bank account, and used the money for his own needs. The case was brought to the Newton Police Department’s attention in June, when the facility where his mother stays reported to the Iowa Department of Human Services that it was not being paid for her care. A search warrant for the bank account records then led to Mallory’s arrest. He was originally charged with two class C felonies, 2nd degree theft against an older individual and unauthorized use of a credit card over $10,000.
