Hollywood’s darling, Sydney Sweeney, is sporting a fresh new look, signaling a vibrant new chapter for the 28-year-old actress. Sweeney debuted a stunning bleach blonde bob with soft waves at the “Christy” premiere during the annual AFI Fest in Los Angeles on October 25th.
The dramatic transformation, a “weeklong” endeavor according to hairstylist Glen Oropeza’s Instagram post, saw Sweeney transition from a dirty blonde to an icy, bright blonde. Hair colorist Jacob Schwartz, also sharing the process on Instagram, aptly described the new hue as “bleached suede blonde.”
“Sydney was looking for a change and wanted to have a big hair moment for the red carpet to support her new movie, ‘Christy,'” Schwartz told Vogue. “It felt like the perfect time to do something bold.”
Oropeza echoed this sentiment, telling Vogue, “‘Christy’ has a lot of underlying tones of resilience, transformation, and power. Sydney herself transformed herself for this role, and I wanted to morph her into this updated version of herself in real life.
Something new and fresh to close out the rest of the year.” He also noted that this marks the shortest Sweeney’s hair has been since her rise to fame.
This personal transformation comes on the heels of Sweeney’s physically demanding role portraying pro boxer Christy Martin in the new David Michôd-directed biopic. For the film, the “Euphoria” star underwent a significant change, wearing brown contact lenses, a shaggy brunette wig, and packing on 30 pounds of muscle – a stark contrast to her latest red carpet appearance.
To achieve this impressive physical metamorphosis, Sweeney trained three times a day for three and a half months and adjusted her diet, which she humorously detailed during a Q&A at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, admitting to consuming “a lot of Chick-fil-A, a lot, a lot of Smucker’s, a lot of milkshakes, a lot of protein shakes.”
