Two Summerfield men arrested after violent struggle with deputies

A pair of Summerfield men with criminal records were arrested when one stole a body cam while the other resisted deputies.

Deputies got a call about 27-year-old Patrick Dale Ortwein on a black motorcycle at 9625 SE 160th Pl., Summerfield, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He was wanted for grand theft of a motor vehicle, so a fugitive apprehension unit responded to take him in.

Upon arrival, they spotted Ortwein riding away on a black Yamaha motorcycle. They parked in his path and ordered him to surrender, but he instead started pushing the motorcycle backward to flee. A gate closed behind him, which triggered him to grab it and try to open it to get away, the report said.

One of the deputies deployed an electronic disabling device, and it momentarily worked. They tried to handcuff Ortwein who resisted by tensing up and pulling away. His left wrist was successfully cuffed as he continued to struggle, which caused him and a deputy to fall to the ground while holding onto his right arm, the report said…
