Report: Arkansas child poverty hits 14%, above national average

ARKANSAS (KNWA/KFTA) — Child poverty in Arkansas increased to 14% between 2022 and 2024, according to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s KIDS COUNT Data Snapshot.

The rate, which translates to roughly one in seven children, is higher than the national average of 13% and up from 8.9% in 2019–2021, the organization reports.

The report, Measuring Access to Opportunity in the United States: A 10-Year Update, uses the Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM), which accounts for household expenses such as housing, health care and child care, as well as the effects of government programs including the Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit, SNAP, Social Security and housing subsidies…
