NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The seventh annual NOLA Reggae Festival postponed its weekend celebrations as Hurricane Melissa threatens to become the strongest storm on record to hit Jamaica.
Festival organizer Joel Hitchcock Tilton told Fox 8 on Sunday (Oct. 26) that his team made the decision due to weather and public safety concerns, both locally and across the Gulf.
“Seems a little weird to be celebrating Jamaica while they’re going through such an event,” Hitchcock Tilton said. “We know what it means to be affected by hurricanes here in New Orleans, and we must stand with our Caribbean brothers and sisters and do what we can to support them from afar.”
