MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Coffins will be flying Manitou Avenue once again on Saturday as the city celebrates one of its most famous residents — with one of its most iconic events!

The Emma Crawford Coffin Race is famously in honor of the very real Emma Crawford, who died of tuberculosis in the late 1800s — but her story didn’t end there!

Per her dying wish, Crawford was buried on top of Red Mountain overlooking Manitou Springs. Her afterlife took an unexpected turn when decades of flooding, harsh winters and erosion jarred her coffin loose and sent it rolling down the mountain!…
