As a community, we take pride in showing up for each other. Right now, we’re all facing a challenge that will test our compassion and resolve. Big news just dropped: Michigan families will not receive SNAP food benefits this November due to the federal government shutdown.

This is a big deal. And it will have immediate and painful consequences for thousands of local families.

SNAP is the United State’s primary anti-hunger program that helps feed over 40 million people. Here in Michigan, more than 1.4 million residents — 1 in 7 Michiganders — participate in SNAP, including nearly 40,000 veterans, and almost 500,000 of our state’s children. 78% of these households include someone with earned income…
