Feral cat group wins additional funding after Columbia councilman suggests ‘extermination’

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Tensions were high during a budget meeting nearly a week and a half after a councilmember’s controversial remarks about the stray cat problem in Columbia.

Previously on Oct. 7 during a regular workshop meeting, a question was raised about the amount of funding to be given to the Columbia Cat Action Team (CCAT), an organization that traps and neuters strays in order to lower the stray cat population in the borough.

Initially requesting $3,000, some on the council expressed concerns over the successfulness of the organization, and suggested the funding could better be utilized in other areas like the borough library…
