Rainy and cool today; Melissa becomes a Category 5

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A coastal low-pressure system will spin up today off the Georgia-South Carolina coast, along with an approaching low from the west. These systems will keep the skies gloomy, and it will be rainy for most of the afternoon. This morning is cool, but near normal with temperatures in the low and mid-50s inland and upper 50s at the coast. Temperatures will only warm about 10 degrees, as the high temperatures will be cool for this time of year.

Rain will be spotty throughout the morning and become more full coverage into the afternoon. We are not worried about storms or severe weather, but this could be a soaking rain with 1 to 2 inches expected, with the higher amounts at the coast. It will be windy today, too, with gusts up to 30 mph. Scattered showers and gloomy weather are expected to persist in the forecast for tomorrow, although the rainfall is expected to be less intense than today. Temperatures will be in the 60s all week.

Another strong cold front and upper-level low will swing down into the Carolinas on Wednesday night, allowing for dry weather to return but also making it very cool at night. Thursday will be partly sunny with perhaps a lingering morning shower. Highs will be in the mid-60s on Thursday and for Halloween. Temperatures will be cool for trick-or-treating on Friday night, with temperatures around 6 p.m. near 60 and falling into the low 50s by 9 p.m…
