As people thronged through the tents on a warm October morning at Albuquerque’s Downtown Growers’ Market, vendors noted the looming concern of upcoming food assistance cuts.
The United States Department of Agriculture first notified states that the federal government shutdown could mean no funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program come November. On Friday, the agency confirmed that funding would stop on Nov. 1.
