Pop Star Katy Perry and Former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Go Public with Romance in Paris
In a pairing that has left many doing a double-take, pop superstar Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have officially debuted their relationship, confirming months of swirling rumors. The “California Gurls” singer and the longtime politician were seen holding hands during a romantic date night in Paris over the weekend.
The couple, Perry, 41, and Trudeau, 53, were photographed exiting the renowned cabaret club Crazy Horse Paris on Saturday, where they reportedly celebrated Perry’s birthday. The singer was a vision in a form-fitting red dress, while Trudeau opted for a classic black suit. Video footage shows Perry graciously accepting a rose from a bystander as Trudeau protectively placed a hand on her back while they made their way to their SUV.
Speculation about a romance between the two first ignited in late July when they were spotted sharing an intimate meal at an upscale Montreal restaurant. This rendezvous, captured by TMZ, came just a month after Perry and actor Orlando Bloom called off their engagement. Perry and Bloom share a daughter, born in 2020, and continue to co-parent.
The timing of the initial sightings coincided with a challenging period for Perry’s public image. Prior to her split from Bloom, her album “143” faced critical backlash, her participation in an all-female Blue Origin space flight garnered scrutiny, and her “Lifetimes” world tour received mixed reviews.
Despite the public challenges, Trudeau appeared to be a supportive presence, having been spotted dancing and singing at Perry’s Montreal tour stop in late July. Earlier this month, paparazzi captured the then-rumored couple engaging in public displays of affection on Perry’s yacht off the coast of her hometown, Santa Barbara.
Trudeau’s new relationship with Perry follows his separation from ex-wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, announced in 2023. The Trudeaus were married for 18 years and have three children together; while legally separated, their divorce is not yet finalized.
Neither Perry nor Trudeau has directly addressed their relationship publicly, though Perry did offer a playful hint during a recent concert in London. When a fan proposed to her, she quipped, “You know you really should have asked me about 48 hours ago,” seemingly referencing her recent yacht outing with her new beau.
Perry is currently continuing the European leg of her “Lifetimes” tour, with her next performance scheduled for Monday at the MVM Dome in Budapest.
