Last week’s heavy rain may have been a hassle for many, but local anglers said it’s improved steelhead fishing along Erie’s creeks.
Along Trout Run at Avonia Beach, the steelhead have started making their trip upstream, with dozens of fish competing for space in the small creek.

The fish swim from the lake back up their native stream to lay their eggs, but before they can do that, the Fish and Boat Commission will collect those fish to produce more in future years.
Fishermen aren’t permitted to catch those fish, but one angler said catching steelhead trout out in the lake has been better.
