LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — It’s almost time for Lakeland’s famous flock of royal swans to have their yearly veterinary checkup.

The swans, whose lineage dates back to a gift from Queen Elizabeth II nearly 70 years ago, will be rounded up by parks and recreation staff on Lake Morton on Tuesday.

Staff will place the birds in large holding pens on the south side of the lake ahead of their wellness checks, which are scheduled for Wednesday. They’ll be weighed and examined before being released back onto the lake…
