If you have noticed anything happening in Shreveport lately, you have noticed an effort to clean things up. Mayor Tom Arceneaux has launched a block-by-block initiativeto clean up our neighborhoods. We have made strides in cleaning up but it’s still a problem.
Have You Noticed a Cleaner Shreveport?
A nationwide survey shows Shreveport is actually worse than we were last year. But I don’t think this data includes information on the latest cleanup efforts. Last year Shreveport was ranked #53 on the LawnStarter report of the filthiest cities. And the report for 2025 has Shreveport ranked at #45.
Shreveport Has Made Big Improvements in 2 Years
But in 2023, Shreveport ranked as the 11th filthiest city in the nation. So we have made significant strides since then. I have to scratch my head to see that our ranking has actually dropped this year. We can only hope to see improvement in the report for next year.
Shreveport’s Environmental Challenges
The LawnStarter reportevaluated 303 U.S. cities based on 20 environmental and public health metrics, categorized into four areas: pollution, living conditions, infrastructure, and resident dissatisfaction. Shreveport’s overall score of 45 shows we still have many challenges ahead.

What Other Louisiana Cities Are on the Filthy List
Baton Rouge is the Louisiana city highest on the list at 28. Lake Charles checks in at 49. New Orleans is #107 this year and Lafayette is at 202. For a national report to claim New Orleans is cleaner than Shreveport makes me wonder how the data is gathered and how current it actually is.
I’m pretty skeptical about this list because Shreveport was recently awarded a “Keep Louisiana Beautiful” award for the block-by-block initiative.
