Army Corps moving forward with Drawdowns in several Willamette Valley Resvoirs

SWEET HOME, Ore. – The city of Sweet Home has preemptively declared a state of emergency ahead of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to conduct water drawdowns at several reservoirs, including Green Peter Dam and Lookout Point. These operations are set for the upcoming fall and winter.

Last year’s drawdown resulted in increased water turbidity, causing significant strain on the city’s water treatment system.

“We had one of the three water filters in our water treatment plant fail because of the turbidity,” said Jason Ogden Sweet Home city manager and Chief of Police. “And so that’s why we did our emergency declaration back at the end of September. We just wanted to be proactive.”…
