DEI in Arizona teaching standards under scrutiny

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI, could cause the federal government to exclude almost a billion dollars of funding from Arizona schools.

That’s the warning from Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne to the Arizona State Board of Education. However, he’s facing some opposition as he requests to open the teaching standards to changes.

Horne said terms like “equitable” in the teaching standards could become expensive under the Trump Administration. He also agrees with the potential changes; however, the state board of education pumped the brakes on his drive, and Tucson’s teachers’ union president questioned Horne’s urgency…
