EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — East Grand Rapids city leaders are discussing possible changes to local ordinances as electric scooter and electric bike use grows — and so do safety concerns.
While rental scooters like Lime are geofenced and can’t be used in East Grand Rapids, many residents have bought their own, most of the time for younger children. City Commissioner Kate Skaggs said that popularity has come with an uptick in accidents.
“There have been a number of incidents of scooters running into cars because the scooters haven’t stopped at intersections,” Skaggs said. “In all of the incidents that we have seen, it’s been the scooter at fault or the scooter and the driver at fault at the same time so that makes it pretty clear to me that we have a lot of education that we need to do.”…
