MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A 22-year-old University of Memphis law student won a lawsuit against the City of Memphis in chancery court Monday morning over violations of the Tennessee Public Records Act.
Tyler Foster filed the lawsuit in July after the city delayed his requests for police disciplinary records through what he says were inflated fees, inconsistent policies, and a sustained pattern of noncompliance.
“Over the course of seven months, I had submitted several public records requests pertaining to Memphis Police Department officers, namely officers who have been involved in local controversies,” Foster says. “The city ultimately refused to turn over any disciplinary records, and told me they would not work toward coming to a constructive resolution.”…
