There’s nothing like a good hot dog, so why not have the best hot dog?
Texas may not be the hot dog capital of the U.S.—that honor goes to West Virginia, where per-capita hot dog consumption is off the charts—but Texans still appreciate a well-crafted wiener. The real question is: where do you go to find the best one?
🏆 The Takeout’s Pick: Good Dog Houston
A national food site called The Takeoutrecently released a list of “The Best Hot Dog in Every State.” It’s a bold claim, considering the sheer number of small-town stands and mom-and-pop joints that serve dogs worth a detour. But according to their research, Texas’s top dog comes from Good Dog Houston, a funky little spot at 903 Studewood Street in Houston’s Heights neighborhood.
Their menu covers everything from classic chili dogs to wild creations loaded with chorizo, mac & cheese, and other indulgent toppings. And in true Texas fashion, they go the extra mile with locally baked buns, which reviewers say take the dogs from good to great. The restaurant is easy to miss—tucked behind trees and a bus stop—but locals know exactly where to find it…
