4-Way Stop Sign In Southeastern Will County Hopes To Reduce Fatal Accidents

The installation of a 4-way stop sign in Southeastern Will County hopes to reduce fatal accidents. The signs went up last Saturday (10-25).

According to Manhattan Fire Chief Steve Malone, the intersection of Route 50 and County Line Road has averaged 16 accidents per year since 2019. In an interview with WJOL’s Scott Slocum, he stated 25% of those crashes involved a fatality. Speed and the increase in Semi-truck traffic in the area are the main factors in these accidents.

Deputy Fire Chief, David Piper is “hoping the installation of this 4-way stop sign will reduce the number of fatality at that intersection.” Slowing the traffic driving on Route 50 is a step in the right direction. Piper and Malone also stressed improvements on Wilmington-Peotone Road need to be made as well…
