Rat bites, negligence linked to death of Shreveport woman in updated lawsuit

In an updated lawsuit, attorneys now representing the children of a woman who claimed she lost toes to rat bites now blame those bites — and alleged gross negligence on the part of those responsible for substandard conditions at the apartment complex where the bites happened — for the woman’s death last year.

An amended complaint filed on behalf of the children of Michaela Nash, the victim of rat bites in 2023 that caused her to lose toes, now claims the operators of Cooper Road Plaza created the conditions that lead to her death, according to the lawsuit. The updated suit alleges poor conditions at the complex were being covered up at the time.

The lawsuit Nash filed against Cooper Road Plaza owners, CPR Redevelopment LP, the property managers, Multifamily Management Ministries Inc., their insurers and an apartment complex employee in 2024 alleges the woman, who used a wheelchair after the amputation of one of her legs years before, was attacked by a rat in her sleep.
