Denver Zoo Scorpion Becomes a Mom Just in Time for Halloween

Did you know that there are over 2,500 different types of scorpions on Earth? That is a wide range of variations across the globe. Some may be docile, while others can pack quite a sting from their tail.

You also might be surprised to know that some scorpions glow under black light, too. I think that is a pretty neat trick that these arachnids have up their sleeves in the dark of the night. Did you also know that scorpions carry their young on their backs while they are just babies?

Meet Kylo Ren, the Denver Zoo’s Scorpion Mom

If you have ever seen a wolf spider, you get the gist of how they can accomplish this task of carrying around dozens of offspring. One Colorado scorpion is a proud new mommy, and she is carrying around a lot of her children.

Kylo Ren, the Asian forest scorpion, is now a mom at the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance, and she is showing off her new babies just in time for Halloween. The Denver Zoo says that Kylo Ren came to Colorado in April as part of the Animal Ambassador program, and she is doing quite well.

The scorpion surprised her caregivers with a batch of sorplings. Yes, that is what baby scorpions are called. See, you learn something new every day. While the staff at the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance was not expecting a full house of scorplings, it sure is a welcome surprise…
