​​Ann Arbor residents warn of door-to-door scams claiming to be from DTE Energy

On Sept. 5, Medical Student Alex Loinard was on their way home and encountered two individuals claiming to represent DTE Energy at their apartment building. In an email to The Michigan Daily, Loinard wrote the two workers said they were doing an utility check for DTE and requested to be let inside.

“They asked if I lived there and if I was the one paying the electricity bill, and said they were doing a check for DTE and if I could let them in,” Loinard wrote. “When I asked to see some sort of identification only the guy could provide a badge that said ‘Kiwi Energy’ and then he said he wasn’t really DTE, but ‘someone doing a check for it.’”

Loinard isn’t alone — other Ann Arbor residents have reported similar issues. Earlier this month, a Reddit user posted to the r/AnnArbor forum alleging two Provision Power and Gas workers falsely impersonating DTE came to their apartment and insisted on seeing the user’s electricity bill…
