KPS reaches an agreement with teachers union

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo Public Schools have reached an agreement with the union representing its teachers and school professionals, according to a release from KPS.

The Kalamazoo Education Association, which represents more than 800 teachers, school counselors, librarians and other staff members, has reached an agreement with the school district regarding compensation for the 2025 to 2026 school year.

The KPS Board of Education will meet Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. to vote on the approval of the agreement. It has already been ratified by the KEA’s bargaining unit, according to the release.

Under the agreement, KEA members will receive a 2.29% base salary increase plus an additional 1.71% “generated through other changes to the collective bargaining agreement.” They will also receive a 2% increase in tuition reimbursement and National Board Certification and a step on the salary schedule.
