Burges High’s Jesus Jasso to Represent Team USA in Deaflympics 2023 in Tokyo

Breaking new ground for athletes with hearing impairments, Burges High School’s very own Jesus Jasso is gearing up to compete for Team USA at the upcoming Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan, this November. As reported by the El Paso ISD, Jasso, who is a senior, has transformed the challenges of his hearing loss and speech impediment into driving forces for his remarkable athletic journey in taekwondo.

Introduced to the martial art at age 13, Jasso didn’t just pick up taekwondo as a mere pastime. It swiftly became a passion, no, a calling that propelled him to a gold-medal finish at the 2022 AAU Taekwondo National Championships in Las Vegas, and again in 2024 at the USA Taekwondo National Championships in Fort Worth. A victory which, the El Paso ISD proudly announced, secured his place on the Deaflympics roster.
