Keith Price still has his life and two legs to stand on following an otherwise boring, late afternoon deer hunt Oct. 20 in St. Mary Parish.
More importantly, the veteran New Iberia deer hunter’s young grandson who lives in the same neighborhood, Owen Edwards, 9, is safe and sound, ready and rarin’ to go on more deer hunts with his Paw. Immediately after their short deer hunt, a 7-foot long alligator chomped on Price’s lower right leg, then kept its strong jaws locked tight for more than a minute on what it probably reckoned was supper.
Price’s quick-thinking counterattack prevailed and the alligator was killed the next morning by a nuisance alligator hunter after his call to the lease’s overseer, thus closing an incredulous hunter vs. wild animal chapter with a happy ending.
The 67-year-old Price, an all-around outdoorsman who also enjoys bass fishing, said he told the story the next day to his buddies who play golf with him at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in St. Martin Parish…
