DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Two people are in custody and face criminal charges for reportedly leaving their one-year-old in critical condition in an act of “depravity and unconscionable cruelty,” according to Dorchester County Sheriff Sam Richardson.
36-year-old Christopher Leon Grimes and 29-year-old Brittany Marie Hatcher are charged with one count each of unlawful conduct toward a child and two counts each of inflicting great bodily injury on a child after deputies were dispatched to Summerville Medical Center in response to a child reported as motionless and showing signs of severe physical injuries.
DCSO said that upon arrival, deputies were told by medical staff that the one-year-old was in critical condition, had “extensive” bruising across their body, and had suffered two brain bleeds.
