The tree-killing emerald ash borer made significant expansion within Fort Collins and in Colorado in 2025.
The insect is now found in more than 20 Front Range cities. This year, the borer was found for the first time in Berthoud, Aurora, Denver, Edgewater, Golden and Wheat Ridge, according to the Colorado State Forest Service.
“EAB has become so widespread that residents in the Front Range should assume the pest is in their city or town,” Mary Brand Danser, urban and community forestry program specialist with the Colorado State Forest Service, stated in a news release. “Unfortunately, we anticipate the range of EAB will continue to expand southward, likely showing up in Castle Rock or Colorado Springs within the next five years.”…
