FBI and local authorities stop potential synagogue attacks in Alabama

CHOCTAW COUNTY, Ala. — Authorities say they have prevented potential acts of violence targeting synagogues across the state and surrounding areas.

The FBI, working with the 1st Judicial Circuit District Attorney and the Special Response Team (SRT), acted on credible threats and identified a suspect, Jeremy Wayne Shoemaker, in Needham, Alabama. A search warrant executed at the suspect’s residence led to the arrest of the individual and the seizure of weapons, a suitcase full of ammunition, body armor, and other items connected to the planned attacks.
