Animal cruelty charges dropped, defense motions for return of property

This month, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office dropped more than 100 animal cruelty and neglect charges on 52-year-old Gregory Havican after state police seized more than 200 animals from his farm on Edinboro Road in 2022.

That decision came after a judge found warrants did not establish probable cause and suppressed all evidence seized during the searches, including the animals, many of which have since found new homes.

Since the charges were dropped, Havican and his team filed a “motion for return of property,” which is still pending, but many people who took animals from his farm thought they might have to give them up…
