GREENSBORO, N.C. — Thousands of families across the Triad are bracing for a food crisis as federal SNAP benefits are set to expire this week. Nonprofits and county leaders say the impact could be immediate, hitting working parents, children and people with disabilities the hardest.
“A little boy was here with his mom and said, ‘Mom, I can’t wait to get a Halloween costume,’ and his mom said, ‘We cannot think about Halloween right now. We need food,’” said Mallory Goodman, vice president of operations at Backpack Beginnings in Guilford County.
