Bedford teacher resigns after parent complaint over social media contact with student

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. — A Bedford Senior High School teacher has resigned following a parent’s concern that he contacted a student through social media, according to the district’s superintendent, Carl Shultz.

Shultz confirmed that Spanish teacher Ben Ku resigned on his own Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, after the district received a parent complaint that morning. Ku, who had been with Bedford for two years, was not fired and was not escorted out by police, Shultz clarified, following multiple rumors circulated on social media.

According to Shultz, the parent concern involved an Instagram message from Ku to a student regarding the discipline of another student. Ku allegedly asked the student to delete the conversation history, which Schultz described as an attempt to “cover tracks.”…
