Corpus Christi could hit a level one water emergency by 2027 unless these projects deliver

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The clock is ticking on Corpus Christi’s water supply, and city leaders say the region could hit a Level One Water Emergency as early as May 2027 if demand continues to rise faster than supply.

But several major projects now underway could help push that emergency date back and keep the city’s faucets flowing.

“The western well field is projected to come online in May 2026,” said Nick Winkelmann, interim Chief Operating Officer for Corpus Christi Water. “When that happens and we have all of the required permits with TCEQ, then we can adjust that outlook, and it would essentially push that date back.”…
