Maryland pumps $9.6 million more into EV fast-charging network

HANOVER, MD—The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) has greenlit another $9.6 million in federal funds to supercharge the state’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, awarding conditional grants for 12 new charging sites that will add dozens of high-speed ports along major highways.

The announcement marks the second round of funding under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program, a federal initiative aimed at building a seamless nationwide EV charging corridor. Combined with 19 projects already in progress from the first round, Maryland’s NEVI efforts will deliver a total of 166 direct current fast-charging ports statewide.

“Maryland’s growing EV charging network provides assurance to future and current EV owners that there are plenty of places to plug in along their trip,” said MDOT Acting Secretary Samantha J. Biddle. “These conditional awards ensure the state’s charging network is up and ready to accommodate the rising number of EVs across Maryland.”…
