As food aid deadline nears, Golden Harvest prepares to step up

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Golden Harvest Food Bank is preparing to help those in need as the federal government shutdown reaches 30 days, leaving SNAP benefits at risk as early as Nov. 1.

Officials say one in six people face food insecurity, including one in four children, across the 24 counties the food bank serves in Georgia and South Carolina.

With 1 in 8 people relying on SNAP to put food on the table, millions of people in Georgia and South Carolina face hunger.

“Even before the shutdown, we’ve seen more families turning to us for help,” said Amy Breitmann, President and CEO, Golden Harvest Food Bank. “If SNAP benefits are interrupted, families, seniors, and veterans across our communities will feel the impact immediately. Golden Harvest will continue to be here for our neighbors. We will not stop showing up.”…
