Mass. DPU blocks Eversource winter rate hike, saving customers tens of millions

The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities has blocked a proposed winter rate hike by Eversource that was set to take effect on November 1, sparing customers from a 13% increase in their energy bills.

The decision means Eversource’s NStar Gas customers will save approximately $45 million this year. DPU officials said the utility company failed to meet key performance metrics required to justify the increase.
