St. Joseph County church ramps up food aid as federal SNAP benefits face November pause

STURGIS, Mich. — A church located in St. Joseph County is preparing to purchase more food for their monthly distribution.

Leaders with First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis made the decision on the heels of The U.S. Department of Agriculture announcing it intends to pause food assistance payments under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, after Nov. 1.
