The Ocoee Taco Company at first seems like a forgotten restaurant, though looks can be deceiving as the spot is truly a hidden gem. When customers initially walk in, guests see vibrant colors and are hit by an aroma of home-cooked meals in the back. However, many people don’t walk into the restaurant because of its exterior. The small restaurant tucked away on a side street makes it hard for drivers to see. Regardless, the tacos are worth the drive as their flavors are vibrant and delicious. These tacos are arguably the best in the area with their citrusy flavor cooked to perfection. The spot also has their specialty sauces for customers who enjoy spicy or mild foods. For either taste their sauces can bring that extra step. They have four sauces with two being mild and the others spicy for either taste. These sauces all help build some of the best tacos in Orlando.
The Ocoee Taco Company first started around 2004 when the owner Francisco Enamorado moved from California to Florida. He had always been passionate about food but was unable to find anywhere good to eat, which resulted in his desire to start a restaurant. During this time in his life he would go back and forth with his wife attempting to convince her to start a restaurant. While arguing he would say to his wife, “Man you cook better than these restaurants” which inspired a sense of spontaneity in him. So, he bought a food truck, which his wife had protested against but ultimately decided to accept. Together they worked hard on building their food truck and working towards success. Nevertheless, they eventually enlarged their customer base, and around 10 years after they started their food truck, they were able to buy a small restaurant to expand their business. This restaurant has been around since 2015 yet never got the love it deserved.
I was introduced to this small restaurant by my sister as she’s all about exploring and finding new food spots with her friends. In addition to that, she would talk about The Ocoee Taco Company and how it was the best taco spot in town. She would always go with her friends and talk about how nice the owners and staff were. This had my whole family interested and made us want to go find out what the restaurant had to offer. At the first glance we were surprised by the simple exterior, but upon entering the restaurant it had personality. We could almost feel how their food was genuine and that the staff truly cared for the establishment. Even with such fantastic food, the restaurant has a straightforward menu sticking to the basics. This restaurant is a great place to grab lunch and talk with friends. It’s hard to find a restaurant with a personality quite like this around town.
