A driver in a rented U-Haul truck caused widespread chaos across in Florida Monday evening, forcing vehicles off the road, ramming others, and injuring at least one person before deputies brought the situation to a dramatic end.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said the incident began around 5:15 p.m. Monday, when 911 dispatchers received multiple reports of a reckless driver in the Lakewood Park area of northern St. Lucie County. Callers described a U-Haul truck swerving through traffic and forcing vehicles off the roadway.
Patrol Operations Bureau Deputy Nelson was the first to spot the vehicle speeding “erratically” through a Winn-Dixie parking lot in Lakewood Park. The driver allegedly tore through the lot at a dangerously high rate of speed, narrowly missing pedestrians and other motorists. Deputies followed as the truck exited onto Turnpike Feeder Road, and allegedly forcing vehicles off the road and endangering everyone in his path…
