Gusty winds and low humidity levels behind Tuesday’s cold front will enhance the risk of fast-spreading wildfires in Southeast Texas on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.
An area of special concern on Wednesday is west of the San Bernard River, where a fire weather watch was in effect for Wednesday, forecasters said. Colorado, Wharton, Jackson and Matagorda counties are in the watch area, monitoring critical fire weather conditions.
The weather service also placed much of Southeast Texas, including the Houston metro area, under a wind advisory until 7 p.m. Wednesday. The alert warned the public of fierce northwest winds blowing at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as strong as 35 to 45 mph.
