Houston ISD placed a Patrick Henry Middle School eighth-grade math teacher on “home duty” with pay and recommended her for termination after she filed a special education complaint with the Texas Education Agency, documents show.
A memorandum from an HISD executive director did not explain why the 25-year veteran teacher, Alaster Gaines, was told to stay home during normal work hours. Gaines and another Patrick Henry eighth-grade math teacher were assigned to home duty on Sept. 4 and 5 respectively, without any end date. The second teacher — with 11 years of experience — was later reassigned to another school, records show.
