Houston will soon have beds for up to 320 members of the area’s unhoused population at a newly purchased resource center that city leaders hope will open at the beginning of 2026.
The City Council on Wednesday voted to purchase a $16 million facility at 419 Emancipation to launch the initiative, pitched under Mayor John Whitmire’s $70-million-a-year plan to end street homelessness.
